The cost of living in Bratislava is less expensive than in Vienna Austria (one hour away) and other European capital cities.  Tourists can consequently find quite a few bargains in the local shops.  The Slovak Republic will be adopt the Euro on January 1, 2009.  This will make shopping even more convenient for tourists to Slovakia.

The Slovak Republic is currently a member of the European community and a participant in the Schengen agreement.  As such, visitors can travel freely to Slovakia from most EU countries without having to pass through customs.
